Almost everybody experiences acne breakouts at some point in their life, but if you’re breaking out now and you want to take control and stop your breakouts, I’m going to tell you how to do it by just using three types of products twice a day, cleansers, toners and products with active ingredients. These are very, very important because they’re available to you without a prescription without going to see the doctor. But before I tell you about them, let me tell you about the general treatment of acne.
Acne can be treated in three ways. First, with these topical products, second, with oral medications which are usually prescribed by your dermatologist, such as antibiotics, birth control pills or even Accutane, and lastly, by actually physically cleaning the pores, and cleaning the clogs out, and that’ s usually done by a facialist or by the dermatologist but hopefully not by you. So, let me come back to these all important topical products that are available to you again without a doctor’s prescription. Each day, twice a day, you’re going to use a cleanser, a toner, and a product with an active ingredient. In the morning, you’re going to start with a cleanser that’s marked for oily skin or for acne-prone skin and you’ll use it by putting a small amount in your palm and very gently massaging it into your face for 5-10 seconds. Rinse it off with warm water and pat your face dry. Then you’re going to take a toner, and that’s the same thing as an astringent, again marked for oily skin or for acne-prone skin, and astringents that are marked that way, can even have 5-10% alcohol content. And that’s OK. Put a little bit of the toner on a thin, cotton, makeup pad and gently wipe your face. As you wipe again and again, you’ll see hues of yellow or gray or brown coming onto the pad and that means the toner is working. It’s removing any residual debris, oil or dirt that the cleanser didn’t remove, and it may even be removing some cleaner that didn’t come off when you rinsed. Then, again in the morning, you’re going to put an active ingredient directly on the blemish. Active ingredients are chemicals like salicylic acid, resorcinol or even sulfur, and people like to use sulfur and resorcinol products in the morning because they not only treat the blemishes but they also are often skin-tinted so they act as a cover-up. In the evening, you’re going to do the same cleansing and toning, bu you’re going to use a special active ingredient, an exfoliant, such as glycolic acid, this is 8% glycolic acid, and it works by removing dead cells, not only from the surface of your skin but also from the actual pores that contributes to the clogging, and you want to put this on your entire face to treat not only the clogs that are there, but to help prevent the clogs that are coming tomorrow. Then, when you’re finished putting on the exfoliant, you’ll take an active ingredient like benzoyl peroxide, this is 10% benzoyl peroxide in Persa-Gel, and put the smallest amount directly onto the blemish, and that’s all there is to it. And one other point, anybody who has acne or oily skin wants to make sure that any products you buy to put on your face are marked either water-based or oil-free, whether they’re moisturizers, sunscreens or anything else. So, if you’re ready to beat your blemishes and clear your complexion, just use these three types of products twice a day.
