Mom always told me that when I scrape my knee or just cut my skin just leave it open to the air and it will heal. When you do that your skin develops a thin, dry, crust or scab and we have learned that those dry, crusty scabs actually slow healing down. If you want better and faster healing you need to keep it moist. So if you develop one of these minor skin injuries for faster and better healing instead of leaving it open to the air apply an antibiotic ointment like bacitracin or polysporin every three to four hours and cover it with a band-aid. Why an ointment, the ointment keeps the whole skin environment of the cut moist and as long as you are going to put the ointment on you may as well have an antibiotic in it to help it from getting infected. What’s the story with the band-aids, the band-aids are there strictly to keep the ointment on you where it does its work and keep it off your clothes and other things.
