How to Get Nails to Grow Faster and Be Harder

Most women take a lot of pride in their fingernails and, at one time or another, they ask, how do I get stronger nails or how do I get my nails to grow faster? Let me deal with the second question first, because it’s really easy. You can’t make you nails grow faster. A lot of supplements will advertise both topical and oral for faster-growing nails but, unfortunately, your nails will grow at the rate that they do uninfluenced by anything you do, so don’t waste your time, or your money, or your resources trying to make them grow faster.

Now let me know talk about the good news about how you can have harder nails. The nail is made of a protein called keratin. It’s dead, it comes out the way it is. It actually is fairly hard and very acceptable but, unfortunately, a lot of women soften their nails inadvertently because, every time you use nail polish remover, the nail polish remover not only dissolves the nail polish, but also weakens the nail a little bit and, for women who change their nail polish every week, they are constantly or repetitively exposing their nails to the nail polish remover which weakens it. The answer here is two-fold. Number one, don’t change nail polish as frequently. Find a product or a color that doesn’t require changing every week, that perhaps can be either changed every two weeks or every four weeks, or at least one that can be layered over itself so, while you can refresh the polish, you don’t have to remove the underlying polish. But keep one thing in mind, your nails, because it’s dead protein, is a little bit like the hull of a boat. The way you preserve that is by protecting it with coatings and by making sure that nothing harmful gets to it. So we use protective coatings on wood, and we also use hardenings on wood, and there is a product called Hard As Nails by a company called Nailtiques, and it is a clear nail polish which actually forms a hard surface when you put it on top of your nails or even on top of your nail polish. So the two ways that you can help to make sure you have acceptably hard nails is, first of all, don’t weaken them unnecessarily with nail polish remover and, secondly, use a nail coating which dries harder which is easily available for harder and more beautiful nails.
