Do you know which skincare products to use when you exercise? And whether to use them before or after? Believe it or not, most people get this one wrong. Today I’ll set the record straight.
Most people wash their face after they work out. But in a prior DermTV episode, I explained how important washing your face before you exercise is, so when you wipe off your sweat, you don’t unintentionally grind any makeup, oil, dirt, excess dead cells, or debris into your pores, which can cause the breakouts and clogs of exercise acne.
While many viewers thanked me for the episode, just as many said it just wasn’t practical to find a sink and cleanser to wash right before they work out. So here’s plan B.
Tone and exfoliate… Which is my one-two, pre-workout punch that was featured in SELF magazine!
So stock your gym bag with a bottle of toner and round makeup remover pads, or better yet, pads pre-soaked with toner. Also make sure to carry a very gentle, low-strength exfoliant that quickly evaporates after you apply it. If you can find pre-soaked exfoliating pads, opt for them.
Then, as you walk into the gym, first wipe your face with a toner pad to wipe away makeup and accumulated oil and dirt. And then either lightly apply your exfoliant or wipe your refreshed skin with an exfoliant-soaked pad… to remove clogging, dehydrated and dulling dead cells.
These two easy swipes will leave your skin squeaky clean and more importantly, ready for a workout that wont break you out.
